Why I write this thing:

I started this thing mostly because I go see a lot of movies, and I end up watching a lot of them by myself. After watching a movie I typically have some observations to make but if I go alone (or with some people who aren't really ready for some nerdy observations) I just sort of think about them for a while but never express them. This way I have a place to write them down and save them.

I'm not sure how interesting any of this is, but I do know that I end up with a lot of friends and family members asking me what I thought of recent movies. And I've gotten better over the years at distinguishing between what I enjoy and what others enjoy (with many of my close friends I can give them a review tailored to their movie tastes.) So I figure this site serves a dual purpose. It lets me express my thoughts into the ether that is the internet and it lets those who know me check in on what I've been watching and what I though of it.

Of course due to the stream of consciousness nature of blogs I end up talking about other things too. Other forms of entertainment make regular appearances (especially TV) and random happenings from my personal life show up as well. It's all part of what makes Blogs great (or terrible, but if you feel that way you probably aren't reading my blog...)

Other Randomness:

Why do all the links open up in a new window?

I really struggled with this one. It mostly has to do with my taste. I like to use lots of windows when I browse the web. When I'm reading something and I get to an embedded link I like to follow it, but also not be taken away from what I'm reading. The trick is you can open up any link in a new window, but linked programmed to open up in a new window will only do that. So doing it the normal way is more flexible and the way I do it could be annoying for some. But in the end I decided to do it the way I choose to browse the web. If you don't like it let me know and maybe I'll change for future posts.

"I don't watch movies" - I recognize the line, but that's still really weird...

Like most strange things it really goes back to an inside joke. My good buddy Matt Harris and I used to hang out a lot (I miss Matt now that we live far apart) and watch a LOT of movies. "I don't watch movies" ended up being one of our inside joke phrases. We used to pull out obscure movie quotes like that all the time and had great fun doing it. Hell, I still do it. If I'm in a conversation and someone says something that matches (or reminds me of) some random movie line you'll just see me do a little chuckle. Sometimes I'll even spit out a related line to see if anyone catches on. Usually the just look at me like I'm a dork - which I guess I am.

Are you the same Chris Dickens I used to know?

Well, I obviously can't answer that nearly as well as you can. But I can give you some help. I grew up in Eugene, Oregon where I went to Corridor Elimentary School, Madison Middle School, and South Eugene International High School (class of 96.) Then I relocated to San Luis Obispo, CA for five years at Cal Poly (class of 01.) Now I'm up in Seattle being a computer nerd (it pays better then my other interests), watching lots of movies, playing soccer, and whitewater rafting on the weekends. If you're still not sure feel free to email me and ask!

Anything else you want to know? Just send it along. I'm friendly - I promise.
